I'd gladly take on the role of Community Manager. I can be responsible for all social media, create SpreadCoin graphics, etc.

It would be fantastic if we could find out exactly what is going on right now. We need a rundown of the testing that is about to happen. We also need to be introduced to the developers taking control.  Bitcointalk needs to be well aware of the progress that his happening. Plus a new thread on Bitcointalk isn't a bad idea. (though I would consider waiting a few more days before we consider Mr. Spread gone.)  Essentially we need an official press release that can be distributed amongst our new twitter, facebook, etc.  The world has to hear that we are stronger than ever.

I could tackle the new ANN thread, but we must transparently state the usernames of the new dev team/their roles. Also, let's come up with a schedule as to when we should launch a new ANN.

Personally I would wait at least until March 8th to start a new thread. That gives Mr. Spread a full 3 weeks to do what he is going to do.  If he has been gone that long he clearly failed to communicate. To me that seems disrespectful.  Not entirely sure if the community would be thrilled to see him back after that long of an absence. And your job as PR representative would involve finding out everyone's place in the community. (as far as devs go) What they are working on, where are they at, when can they be expected to finish their current job. That sort of thing.

Id say give him 31 days. Thats enough to time to be released if he's in jail for something small.  ;)

I just can't see someone up and walking away without a single word from something they have invested so much time and effort in, unless SPR was just an alpha test to begin with. I would keep an eye out for a new coin with another anon developer that shares many of the same key attributes...

I was giving Mr. Spread the benefit of the doubt up until spreadcoin.net went down. Being that it is hosted in New Jersey with a July 21, 2015 expiration, regardless of where Mr. Spread is located, there is no logical reason for it to disappear and quit functioning unless the holder of the password wanted it to happen... That seems to be pretty damning evidence IMHO. What? Was he tortured by "the authorities" in a foreign land to surrender the login and password to the host so they could kill the project information page and wallet downloads? He could have just walked away and left it at that, but instead he chose to sabotage the community efforts to carry on in his absence. At this point in time, I am actually pretty surprised that the source code has not been deleted from Github as well, unless there is something preventing a project founder from doing so...

I will refrain from expressing my feelings in detail regarding those that can so easily up and quit without even a single word or comment for so many that had such faith and trust in them... If the laws of decency or conscience are not enough to promote a honorable path today, then I'm positive that Karma and the next life will have their toll.

That said, it would appear that the fate of the project is up to us. Seems like such a shame to let it go to waste. I suggest that whatever salvage efforts are in the works proceed post haste without any delay!

If you haven't read through his entire posting history, that conjecture might seem plausible. But I think you'll find that it doesn't stand up to examination.

The effort became drowned in fevered speculation, hype and bogus comparisons to DRK and its success.

The dev was banned from his own thread and, apparently coincidentally, immediately became the subject of a sustained orchestrated smear campaign. bct is a poisonous and corrosive environment which would even tax the resilience of a saint, let alone a solo dev. The altcoin domain is littered with examples of solo devs who've bailed on their coin for a whole variety of reasons, Mr Spread is now just another instance of that.

There's no rush to re-group. Any apparent time pressure is a bogus effect arising from a conjunction of unconstrained impulsivity and the smear campaign. There's no real-world pressure, there can't be; any time-scale other than “perhaps later” is just not a practical prospect for a solo dev.

Cheers

Graham

I will. But it will not happen tomorrow, it might take a few more days.
We will also need a fully functional website before we do so.

Stay tuned.

I'd be very happy to create a few graphics to put into the new ANN, if you aren't doing so already  ;D
