"No pool" was his main and original concept, but I don't think ocminer did a bad thing on purpose. It was a challenge for any pool owner. Ocminer just solve a challenge.
Yeah, 1% hashrate, cool. that's a big pool!!!! everyone is minig there!!!! :D omg, omg
[/quote]

No need to be so negative.  :o  I'm just trying to share my thoughts in this bad situation. Look at my posts and you should see I'm doing it really rare.
Its not a big pool right now, but there's a possibility to become big or there could be other pools in the future too.
Like I said I would gladly help in any form to save SPR.

One thing you guys need to compare is the community. Most scam coins get dumped and everyone scatters. We are all still here.

Whether intentional or not, permanent or temporary, Mr Spread's absence is something that Spreadcoin would have had to deal with sooner or later. TBH, programmers of Mr Spread's ability tend to move on as their interests in other areas develop, in these instances anything other than a clean break creates a lingering decision paralysis that often proves to be the ruination of the project. The current situation is a something of a baptism by fire and likely to prove the making or the breaking of the coin.

It's a very good sign that people are stepping forward to offer assistance, it betokens an inclusive group --- and IME, for purely existential reasons, Open Source developer groups absolutely have to offer a low impedance to those wanting to come on board, else the inevitable attrition will whittle the group down to an ossified and beleaguered rump of die-hards.

I'd like to see an education programme about coin logistics, node and explorer deployment, website and content development, right through to public speaking about crypocurrency in general and Spreadcoin in particular. If Spreadcoin gains significant traction, someone will have to perform these tasks / fulfil these roles in a consistent and capable manner.

Cheers

Graham

Is there some specific direction you'd like to head in?

At the moment, I don't get any clear sense of the direction in which the community is oriented or even if there is anything even approaching a consensus (I suspect that's partly due to Mr Spread's omission of a public vision). It's very likely that Spreadcoin's trajectory will be in at least the same quadrant as Darkcoin's; given the heritage, it can hardly be otherwise.

Nevertheless, there's still more than adequate scope for the identification of a coherent set of brand values and the creation of a distinctive brand identity, both of which, by necessity, will have to be a true reflection of the existing community's values and any nascent group identity that begins to coalesce. Sorry if that's rather vague, it's a difficult subject to articulate.

Cheers

For the community to reach concensus we need working examples first, that we can test and approve.
I want to see many different forks that demonstrate how it might work one way or the other, and THEN we can reach a possible concensus by choosing the one fork that will add most value to spreadcoin.

At the moment I can recognize at least 3 different paths mentioned by different people of the community (I would love to see test net versions of each of those):

1) test round 2 with improved parameters. (Mr. Spread's mn-test branch improved)
2) strumpet's version with fix amount MNs
3) my version with flexible max amount of MNs (total coins/2880)

I am working on 3)... who is working on 1) + 2) ?

What I want to say with this is: I don't think we need a clear direction at the moment. What we need is innovative devs and testers that want to try new things out. All the time.

Just spent a few hours digging deep into 'Mr. Spread' and this truly doesn't add up.
Low-0 profit, tedious tweaking, great communication and assertion to users with the beneficial ideas/goals/bugs/errors in code, and a great looking project for where it has come from till now.
Makes no sense to me. If he wanted out and even if he had rat holes everywhere to cash out for him, spread across the top 20 wallets, why? The momentum SPR had was phenomenal and to pack up and never sign in again, to me, seems unimaginable. This coin is still in its infancy and to have such a strong project just to throw it away for whatever reason seems unjustifiable.

I agree, it just doesn't make sence. But are there programmers that can push this project forward until Mr. Spread comes back.

I havent had time to look over the code completely yet but will make time tomorrow, I can progtram C++, C#, Java the list goes on so I'm pretty confident I can pick up  where he left off. My biggest issue will be time, I run an IT department which as you can imagine takes up a lot of time. There are few programmers within the community so between us we should be able to keep it running, we do need some sort of road map of which dirextion to go. If we have multiple forks and no clear goals people will lose faith in spr which is the last thing we need.

Might be a good idea to organise a live chat session on irc or something similar so we can all have a proper discussion?. Thoughts anyone?

I think that is a good idea, I can give imput but I'm not a programmer. I want to see this project succeed!
Maybe set up a new thread?

Im down. Like I said Im by no means a developer. I have been teaching myself Python but Im no where close to professional. My buddy will be in my area sometime this week and I will have him examine SPR to see if he has any interest in helping but honestly, short of him seeing something he truly believes in thats completely innovative to him, I dont see him investing much time free of charge and his services are by no means cheap from what I understand. If you are top notch and have any busy work in the progression of the main interest of SPR that you could explain to me and have me execute in a certain timeframe I would be more than happy to lend a hand. I recently set up a github and dont mind working full time and spending the rest of my time helping/learning on this project or anything else I see potential in being a part of.

I completely agree. We should definitely set a time for IRC. Also I think our next immediate step is creating some sort of testnet version. Even if it's only a small tweak to the code. The public needs to see that we are moving forward. Can anyone create a simple tweak that we can begin testing within the next week?

Have him take a look and if he is even remotely interested then we can donate a small percentage of SPR to him. That will give him incentive to make the project shine.

Ill talk to him. Honestly an interesting project is more likely going to sway him rather then crowd funding. Well see..

Sad to admit the reality but it looks like something happened to the dev that prevents him from continuing this project.

I don't believe for a minute that he abandoned it out of free will. Whatever happened to him is speculation at best. I agree this project is worth continuing and for that we need to attract top programmer(s). Not to replace Mr. Spread but to continue the development in his absence.

What can we offer potential candidates and how will we select a competent programmer?

My suggestion would be to:

1) Have them compile a test release from github repository (qt compiling on all platforms is a challenge in itself)
2) If point 1 succeeds: have them program test version 3 based on a community wish list
3) after completion of point 2) we can think about a new release version including masternodes

and compensate them with:

1) Dev fund in SPR
2) or Dev fund in BTC
3) Other means of compensation

Thoughts?

I agree. I think we should pay in SPR though. That way the dev has incentive to make the project go well.
